New Updates for the Manual for Erosion and Sediment Control in Georgia

New Approved Practices

Please note that while these practices have been approved by the Georgia Soil and Water Conservation Commission, offical updates to the Manual will not be done until January 1, 2009.  Although the Manual will not be offically updated until January 1, 2009, such practices maybe used.

Sediment Barriers are temporary structures typically contructed of silt fence supported by steel or wood posts.  Other types of barriers may include sandbags, straw bales, brush piles or other filtering material

Compost Filter Socks (Sd1-CFS) -   Compost filter socks are a three-dimensional tubular sediment control and storm water runoff filtration device typically used for perimeter control of sediment and soluble pollutants (such as phosphorus and petroleum hydrocarbons), on and around construction activities. Compost filter socks trap sediment and soluble pollutants by filtering runoff water as it passes through the matrix of the compost filter socks and by allowing water to temporarily pond behind the compost filter socks, allowing deposition of suspended solids. Compost filter socks are also used to reduce runoff flow velocitieson sloped surfaces.
