Due to  a change in business operations, the Conyers Regional Office of the GA Soil and Water Conservation Commission will be closing as of June 28, 2013. 


Effective July 1, 2013, Erosion, Sediment and Pollution Control (ES&PC) Plans submitted for review in the following Conservation Districts will be reviewed by GSWCC Staff at these new office locations:

Small and Beginning Farmers Workshop in Marietta – June 17


There will be a special workshop for small and beginning farmers at the Cobb Water System Lab in Marietta, Ga., on June 17. Topics covered will be of interest to anyone just starting or those existing farmers with limited resources. Experts will discuss improving soil quality for vegetable production, integrated pest management, produce safety, USDA programs, and community supported agriculture. There is no cost for the workshop and lunch will be provided. Register by email or call 706-295-6131.

Erosion and Sediment Control Exposition held on May 30


The 26th Annual Erosion and Sediment Control Seminar and Exposition was held on Thursday, May 30, at the Callanwolde Fine Arts Center, 980 Briarcliff Road, NE, Atlanta, 30306. Sponsored by the DeKalb County Soil and Water Conservation District, the seminar and exposition featured new practices, products and programs for controlling soil erosion. Funds from the Expo paid for students to attend the Natural Resources Conservation Workshop (NRCW) held in June in Tifton, Ga. 


Governor Deal appoints Supervisor to DeKalb SWCD Board


On April 26, Governor Deal announced that Larry Danese has been appointed as DeKalb Soil and Water Conservation District Supervisor. Danese is a retired professional engineer. He has been active in community service since 1990, serving on the DeKalb Planning Commission and numerous ad hoc committees providing recommendations to the DeKalb County government. Danese earned a bachelor’s degree in Engineering from the University of Florida and a master’s degree in Business Administration from Florida International. He has three children and four grandchildren and resides in Brookhaven.
