Soil and Water Conservation in the News
On August 9 the Walton County SWCD held a Farmland Protection Workshop at the William Harris Homestead in Monroe. Over 40 interested land owners attended the workshop where they listened to speakers from the Conservation Fund, American Land Trust, and the Oconee River & Athens Land Trust organizations.
On July 29 GSWCC employees and District Supervisors from Broad River and Lincoln County SWCD’s attended a Pasture Soil Health Workshop on Smith Farm in Wilkes County. The workshop was held by NRCS and led by Wilkes County District Conservationist Kelli Coleman.
On July 15 at Jekyll Island GA GSWCC staff members, Michelle Boone, Jennifer Standridge and Robert Amos recently led a children’s program at the Georgia Farm Bureau’s Young Farmers & Ranchers Conference.
The Brier Creek and Piedmont Soil & Water Conservation Districts sponsored the Georgia Envirothon State Championship team at the National Competition in Ohio. Davidson High School from Augusta will traveled to Ohio to compete at the National Envirothon Competition in July 2022.
The Alapaha Soil and Water Conservation District hosted a Level 1A Renewal Course on Wednesday, June 29, 2022 from 8:00 am – 12:00 pm at Southern Georgia Regional Commission Building, 1937 Carlton Adams Drive, Valdosta, GA 31601.
Central Georgia Conservation District and Bleckley County Forestry Commission taught about their role in conservation!
On June 11th, the Upper Chattahoochee River Soil & Water Conservation District partnered with the Chestatee Chattahoochee RC&D Council and White County Extension to hold a workshop at Satterfield Farms in White County. Update on Agribility, using drones on a farm and more.
Upper Chattahoochee River SWCD hosted a field day on June 11, 2022 in Cleveland, GA. Topics included Pasture Management, Drone Mapping, Firewise on the Farm and more.

The Clayton County Conservation District will be hosted their annual tree giveaway Friday, February 18, 2022 to celebrate Georgia Arbor Day. Tree seedlings were provided at no cost to the local community.
Robbie Faust owner of Bellflower Farms located in Dawson, Georgia has been named the 2021 Conservationist of the Year by the Georgia Association of Conservation Districts (GACD) for his outstanding contributions to natural resource conservation.
Six Figs Farm is located near Good Hope and owned by Mikkel and Sunday Antonison. The organic farm uses regenerative agriculture practices to grow figs, elderberries, and asparagus. They also raise ducks, chickens, and honey bees.
