Terry Chandler, owner of Still Water Farm in Danielsville, was chosen as the recipient of the statewide Governor's Environmental Stewardship Award for 2009.  Terry is a new District Supervisor in the Broad River Soil & Water Conservation District in GSWCC's Region 2.  He is a 1980 Madison County High School graduate and a 1983 University of Georgia graduate with a degree in Agronomy.  Terry is married to Deborah Ann (Silcox) Chandler and together they have three children, Robert, 24, Jennifer, 22, and Kimberly, 16.

Terry has served as past president of the Madison County Cattlemen's Association, Director/Board Chairmen of the Madison County Agriculture center and is the current President of the Madison County Chapter of Georgia Young Farmers Association. Twenty years ago, Terry and his wife purchased 236 acres in Madison County and set out to begin farming. Closer examination revealed an environmentally abused piece of property with severe erosion, a silted-in pond, stripped wildlife habitats and a rundown swine facility. Over the years, Terry invested financially and with his time to improve soil erosion issues, clean out and improve existing lagoons and to reinstall wildlife buffers and forestland to create wildlife habitats. The Chandler family has installed 5+ miles of permanent fencing creating 8, 5-acre paddocks and 9, 10-acre paddocks. Cattle have been excluded from all surface waters and water troughs and heavy area have been installed. Still Water Farm now produces poultry, beef cattle, Bermuda hay and offers custom cattle services. Receiving the Governor's Environmental Stewardship Award gives Terry recognition for his hard work on his Madison County Farm. Congratulations Terry on your Award!
