New Appointments Made by Governor Deal

September 23, 2011 - Nathan Deal has named three new appointees to serve as supervisors in districts with vacant elected supervisor positions.  According to the O.C.G.A. 2-6-31 (2) (A), an elected board member vacancy can be filled by the Governor from a list of two names as submitted by the local soil and water conservation district in which the vacancy occurs.  

The following soil and water conservation districts submitted applications to the Governor's Office.  The newly appointed district supervisors are:

Flint River Soil and Water Conservation District
Richard R. Thomas, Dougherty County

Lower Chattahoochee River Soil and Water Conservation District
James C. Reid, Jr.; Sumter County

Brier Creek Soil and Water Conservation District
Johnny R. Stevens, Richmond County

The term of office for these positions will end December 31, 2012, at which time the candidate elected at the 2012 Special Election will take office.  Soil and Water Conservation District supervisors are public servants charged, along with their districts and the Commission, with maintaining, conserving, and wisely using the soil and water resources for all citizens of Georgia.
