On August 9 the Walton County SWCD held a Farmland Protection Workshop at the William Harris Homestead in Monroe. Over 40 interested land owners attended the workshop where they listened to speakers from the Conservation Fund, American Land Trust, and the Oconee River & Athens Land Trust organizations.
On July 29 GSWCC employees and District Supervisors from Broad River and Lincoln County SWCD’s attended a Pasture Soil Health Workshop on Smith Farm in Wilkes County. The workshop was held by NRCS and led by Wilkes County District Conservationist Kelli Coleman.

Robbie Faust owner of Bellflower Farms located in Dawson, Georgia has been named the 2021 Conservationist of the Year by the Georgia Association of Conservation Districts (GACD) for his outstanding contributions to natural resource conservation.

County SWCD names Six Figs Farm as 2021 Conservationist of the Year
Six Figs Farm is located near Good Hope and owned by Mikkel and Sunday Antonison. The organic farm uses regenerative agriculture practices to grow figs, elderberries, and asparagus. They also raise ducks, chickens, and honey bees.
